Our Cooler Story
We started out in 1947 making steel water jugs for oil field workers, but it wasn’t long before we started getting even cooler. Most know us for inventing the Playmate — our world-famous cooler released in 1971. This engineering icon has such a distinct, revolutionary design (we’re good at thinking outside the “icebox”), it’s on display at the Smithsonian! Through many other innovations over the decades — the first plastic cooler in the ‘60s, the first wheeled cooler (1994), the first hardside coolers made from recycled plastic (2021) and many more in between — we became the go-to brand for consumers around the world who work hard and play harder.
